The Calamity Peak Lodge is located in the Black Hills of South Dakota 2 miles east of Custer on Highway 16A in a quiet, scenic area on French Creek.
They are close to all major attractions in the southern Black Hills. The scenic route from Calamity Peak Lodge to Mount Rushmore – including time to feed the donkeys and take a picture of Mount Rushmore framed by a tunnel – takes a little over an hour. The quicker route takes about three quarters of an hour. They are minutes from Custer State Park, Crazy Horse Monument, Wind Cave National Park, Black Hills Playhouse, as well as great hiking and horse-back riding.
Because we are such a good value, we have a high percentage of return guests, including family reunions. Our lodge house (unit 8), with a washer and dryer, a spacious, fully equipped kitchen, dining room, and a commodious living room, is an ideal hub for family reunion
